Question:

Asalamualykum, Harun Yahya said on 6 Aug 2007 in an interview with Al-jazeera: "there are number of hadith which indicate that it is virtuous not to get married in the End Times...We can also find this [reference of those hadith] in the works of Said Nursi. You will be able to find it on the Internet if you look the term up in the Risale-i Nur Collection of Said Nursi" Is there any such hadith which says that it is better for Muslims not to get married during the end times? Allah Hafiz

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

First of all, it should be noted that the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is that he married women. He sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “...and I marry women, and whoever desists from my Sunnah, he is not one of us.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] Furthermore, he sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) very much urged young people to marry as he sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “O young people, whoever is able to marry should marry.[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

As regards refusing to marry, the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) disliked it, as in the story of ‘Uthmaan ibn Math’oon may Allaah be pleased with him. Moreover, we do not know any authentic narration about the excellence of not marrying at the end of times. It is true that some narrations have been reported in this regard, but As-Sakhaawi may Allaah have mercy upon him said that all of them are weak.

In fact, some scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them ruled such narrations to be fabricated, like the narration: “The best amongst you in the coming two centuries is the one who has no wives and no children.” [Abu Ya’la]

For more benefit, please refer to Fatwa 84077.

Finally, you should know that Haroun Yahya is not a religious reference so that people take religious rulings from his words, and that he himself does not claim to be so.

Allaah Knows best.
