Meaning of Quran 20:15

Question:

Allaah ('azza wa jalla) says about The Hour in Soorah Taa Haa "akaadu ukhfeehaa". Kindly tell us what this means.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

 

The meaning of the expression in the verse is clear, which is that Allaah kept the knowledge of the Hour for Himself, and did not disclose it to anyone. Allaah is absolutely The Only One Who knows its precise time. The evidence proving this is the saying of Allaah (which means): {They ask you, [O Muhammad], about The Hour: when is its arrival? Say, “Its knowledge is only with my Lord. None will reveal its time except Him. It lays heavily upon the heavens and the earth. It will not come upon you except unexpectedly.”}[Quran 7:187]
