Number of prophets and messengers

Question:

How many prophets and messengers of Allaah are there?
Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

 

There are 124,000 prophets, 315 of which were messengers, may Allaah exalt their mention, as mentioned by the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ). [Ahmad]
