All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
It is permissible for a woman to wear rings on her right hand and we are not aware of any religious evidence which prohibits a woman from wearing rings on her right hand, and we do not know any scholar who said this. The Fiqh Encyclopedia reads: ‘‘The jurists have no difference of opinion in regard to where a woman should wear rings, as this is a way of beautifying herself, so she is permitted to wear rings on any of her fingers or toes or anywhere she likes, but the jurists differed in opinion in regard to where a man should wear rings. Some jurists of the Hanafi School of jurisprudence are of the view that a man should wear his ring only on his little finger of his left hand and not on his right hand, whereas some of them are of the view that a man is permitted to wear a ring on his right hand…’’
To conclude, there is no difference of opinion among the scholars that a woman is permitted to wear rings on her right hand.
It should be noted that according to the view of the majority of the scholars it is not an obligation to pay Zakah on jewelry that is intended for permissible use. However, some scholars of the Hanafi School of jurisprudence are of the view that it is an obligation to pay Zakah on it, and it is better to act according to this view in order to avoid the difference of opinion.
Allaah Knows best.
