Question:

How do I know which The Holy Quranic Surah's name I can keep as my baby's name. I choose couple of them, can you please let me know are they good or not. " Naba " " Mai'dah" " Ma'arijj"

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Naming a new-born child with the names of the Chapters of the Quran or the alphabetical letters found at the beginning of some Chapters of the Quran (such as Taaha and Yaaseen) is disliked according to the view of some scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them. Ibn Al-Qayyim may Allaah have mercy upon him said: “It is forbidden to name (a new-born child) with the names of the Quran and its Chapters, like Taaha, Yaaseen, Haameem…” Moreover, Shaykh Bakr Ibn ‘Abdullaah Abu Zayd may Allaah have mercy upon him said: “A group of scholars disliked naming a child with the names of Chapters of the Quran, such as Taaha, Yaaseen, Haameem…” For more benefit, please refer to Fataawa 82724 and 87262.

Allaah Knows best.
