All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
According to the view of many scholars the age of menopause has no limit as we stated in Fatwa 85311. Therefore, any bleeding discharges that a woman sees is considered menses if it could be menstrual blood (i.e. if it fulfills the conditions of the menstrual blood as clarified in Fatwa 129256). Hence, if the bleeding which you see lasts a complete day and night (24 hours), then it is considered as menses; in which case, you should not fast or pray, but if the period in which you see the bleeding discharges is less than a complete day and night – which is the minimum period of menses – then this bleeding is not menses, but it is bleeding outside your monthly period, so it does not prevent you from the prayer. So, you are obligated to purify yourself from it, perform ablution and pray. For more benefit, please refer to Fatwa 83908.
Allaah Knows best.
