All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
The methodology of the Sufi Tareeqahs, including the Burhaaniyyah, involves several religious innovations that contradict the fundamentals of the Sharee‘ah. The Burhaaniyyah is attributed to Burhaan Ad-Deen Ibraaheem ibn Abd-Al-‘Azeez Ad-Dusooqi, who was born in 653 A.H (1255 A.D). He was known as Al-Burhaani and his Tareeqah was named Al-Burhaaniyyah.
Abd-Al-Hameed Muhammad Ahmad, the editor of Mawsoo‘at Ahl Ath-Thikr (the Encyclopedia of the People of Remembrance) - Sudan, mentions that it has not been proven that Burhaan Ad-Deen learnt the principles of his Tareeqah from any preceding Sufi. He added that Burhaan Ad-Deen never mentioned any of his tutors. However, any Shaykh he referred to was merely a source of Barakah (blessing) to him, as it was narrated that he believed that when man becomes perfect, Allaah the Almighty will teach him directly, without an intermediary.
Muhammad ‘Uthmaan Al-Burhaani was a follower of that Tareeqah in the Sudan, but later he established a separate Sufi Tareeqah and called it Al-Burhaaniyyah. He authored a book Tabri’at Ath-Thimmah Fi Nus’h Al-Ummah (Fulfilling the Duty of Advising the Ummah), where he wrote several heresies and attributed them to the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, and his honorable Companions .
The Academy of Islamic Research in Egypt issued a decree that this book contradicts Islamic fundamentals and judged whoever believes in its content to be a disbeliever.
