Making up missed 'Ishaa' and Witr prayers

Question:

If i miss isha prayers and perform next day in the morning, how many rakaat should i pray And also should I pray Witr?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

If a person misses one obligatory prayer such that its prescribed fixed time is over, then he should make it up according to its normal manner of how it is prayed and according to the number of its Rak'ahs - without any addition or reduction. So, if you miss the Fajr prayer, you should make it up two Rak’ahs exactly in the same manner as you would perform it at its prescribed time. The same thing applies if you miss Thuhr, ‘Asr, Maghrib or ‘Ishaa', you should pray them [make them up] with their exact number of Rak’ahs.

It should be noted that it is not permissible to deliberately delay the prayer beyond its Islamically prescribed fixed time without any sound reason.

As regards to making up the Witr prayer, it is permissible for you to make it up, according to the view we adopt at Islamweb; so if one misses the Witr prayer, he may make it up. Hence, he may make it up with an odd number of Rak’ahs or he may make it up with an even number of Rak’ahs; the issue is simple, Allaah willing.

For more benefit on how to make up the Witr prayer with an even number of Rak’ahs, please refer to Fatwa 126315 and 83483.

Allaah Knows best.
