Question:

Assalamualaikum wa rahmnatullahi wabarkatahu sheikh...... What is the ruling on drinking non alcoholic drinks like barbican and other such drinkswhich are sold in saudi arabia and other muslim countries......

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

The default ruling in all things is permissibility unless legitimate evidence is presented regarding its prohibition. Allaah The Exalted said (what means): {It is He who created for you all of that which is on the earth.} [Quran 2:29]

As such, these drinks are permissible to consume except that which is known to intoxicate when one drinks it, even if in large quantities, then the single drop of it is forbidden. This is due to the principle that whatever intoxicates in a large amount is forbidden in a small amount. As for drinks that do not intoxicate, then they are allowed.

Allaah Knows best.
