Deeds that benefit a Muslim who has committed suicide

Question:

How can I now benefit my brother who has committed suicide?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

We ask Allaah The Exalted to forgive your brother and not to punish him for this sin. There is no doubt that suicide is one of the gravest sins, and may Allaah The Exalted protect us from committing suicide. We have already provided the details of this issue in another Fatwa.

The deeds that may benefit the person who has committed suicide include asking Allaah The Almighty to forgive him, giving in charity on his behalf, and performing righteous deeds, then invoking Allaah The Almighty to bestow on him the reward for them. We ask Allaah The Almighty to have mercy upon him.
