Question:

Assalam alaykum. My question is this: is it good during (Duaa) supplications to be urging God to quickly accept the prayer and grant the wish? I.e. Using words/phrases like "Oh God, pls quickly grant me a good job"

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

There is nothing wrong with being persistent in making Du‘aa’ and asking Allaah The Almighty to respond quickly to it. As for the prohibited form of seeking quick response, it was pointed out in the Hadeeth of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam: “Your Du‘aa’ is answered so long as it does not involve sin or severing the ties of kinship or hastening.” It was said: “O Messenger of Allaah, what does hastening mean?” He said: “When he says, ‘I made Du‘aa’ but I did not see any response,’ so he gets discouraged and stops making Du‘aa’.” [Muslim]

For more benefit on the etiquette and proper times of supplicating, please refer to Fataawa 83421 and 88296, and to Fataawa 83504 and 116593 about having good expectations of Allaah The Almighty and also to Fataawa 85023 and 92363 about the hindrances which prevent the supplication from being accepted.

In any case, there is no blame on you for supplicating Allaah The Almighty with what you have stated.

Allaah Knows best.
