All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
It is customary that a student lives under the care of his father and his financial support and that he asks his father for money. Scholars did not consider this as begging (dispraised asking for money).
We have already stated in previous Fataawa about "the rulings regarding a child requesting money from his father" that there is nothing wrong with a child asking his father for money as long as he is in need for it or does not have enough money to meet his needs, and that he may not ask his father for money if he has what suffices him. This is based on the Hadeeth that reads: "A man continues to beg from people persistently until he meets Allah without a shred of flesh on his face!" [Muslim] It was also narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: "Whoever begs people for their money to accumulate more wealth for himself is akin to one who asks for live coals, so let him ask for a lot or a little!" [Muslim] An-Nawawi said: “This applies to the one who frequently begs others for money for no necessity, which is forbidden. The Hadeeth states that he does so in order to get more money without necessity or need.” [End of quote]
Undoubtedly, it is better for the son to dispense with asking his father for money by working if he is able to work and work is available for him.
Allah Knows best.
