Question:
I am a secondary school teacher in London. One of the main problems teachers face in student misbehaviour. One of my lecturers has advices me to give raffle tickets to students who are behaving well and following instructions and at different intervals in the lesson I call out a number so they can choose a price from a box. The box contains small items of small value such as stationary or stickers or sweets. This would help encourage those who are not following instructions to start doing so. My question is, is my use of raffle tickets in such a way prohibited?Jazakum Allahu Khair
Answer:
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu`alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
There is nothing wrong with using the drawing method to determine the incentive award for each student who has been selected to encourage him and others to have more good morals and good behavior in the school. The drawing here takes the same ruling as the permissible drawing lots.
Allah knows best.
