All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
We have previously explained the ruling on wearing clothes below the ankle, and the scholars differed as to whether the prohibition is for pretension only or with something other than pretentiousness (pride).
We favored the view that wearing clothes below the ankle is forbidden whether it was for showing off or not.
As for covering half of the ankle, what counts is the entire ankle. The view that we adopt here in Islamweb is that covering the ankles is not included in the limits of trailing one’s lower garment. So based on this, if your pants cover half or all your ankles, there is nothing wrong with that.
Allah knows best.
