All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
The Prophet had many ways of dressing; among them are the following:
• Qamees (shirt): Imaam Ahmad, Abu Daawood and at-Tirmithi reported from Umm Salamah that she said, "No clothing was dearer to the Messenger of Allaah than (his Qamees) the shirt."
• Al-Izaar (waist sheet) and Ar-Ridaa (a sheet covering the upper part of body) as narrated in Al-Bukhari and Muslim.
• Turban, as narrated in Saheeh Muslim from Amr bin Al-Huraith .
Generally, a man can wear what is convenient for him provided the dress is not silky or too long, or prohibited in Sharee'ah (Islamic legislation). Know that Al-Qamees was the dearest dress to the Prophet . It is desirable to wear white according to the saying of the Prophet : “Wear your white garments, for they are among your best garments, and shroud your dead in them.” [Ahmad and others]
Allaah Knows best.
