Forcing a wife to earn

Should a man force his wife to earn?

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. The husband should spend on his wife within his ability. He should not appoint some work for her to help in this spending. But it is part of the good company and the honourable relationship that the woman helps her disabled, poor or weak husband in the expenditure and the costs of life. But if she refuses he has no right to compel her. She even has the right to ask for divorce if the husband does not fulfill her rights of expenditure. Allah knows best.
