Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
Tirmizi and Ibn Majah and others reported from Kathir Ibn Abdullah, from his father, from his grandfather that "The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said Allahu Akbar in Adha and Fitr Eid prayers in the first Rak’ah 7 times before the recitation of the Qur'an, and in the last (second) Rak’ah he said Allahu Akbar 5 times before the recitation”.
Tirmizi said that ‘the Hadith of the grandfather of Kathir is a sound Hadith and it is the best Hadith reported about the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) on this subject’.
It is reported as well that ‘Abu Hurairah used to pray in Medina like the above prayer. This is the opinion of Ahl al-Madina, and Malik Ibn Anas, Shafi’e, Ahmad and Ishaq’.
In Musnad Ahmad it is reported that “Ayisha (Radiya Allahu Anha) narrated that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) used to say Takbir in Eid Fitr and Eid Adha 7 times and 5 times (consecutively in the 1st and 2nd Rak’ah) before the recitation of the Qur'an.”
Jabir said: ‘The Sunnah is to say Takbir in Eid Fitr and Adha 7times (in the first Rak’ah) and 5 times in the last Rak’ah’.
