Question:
When a person leaves this life, and he, through the Mercy of the Almighty enters Jannat, s he allowed to choose with whom he would like to be?
Answer:
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
There are evidences from the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Prophet that whoever enters Paradise, will take pleasure therein forever and will find whatever his soul desires. He will also be in the company of those he used to love in this life even though his deeds are not equal to their deeds. Allaah says (which means): {And whoever obeys Allaah and the Messenger (Muhammad ), then they will be in the company of those on whom Allaah has bestowed His Grace, of the Prophets, the Siddiqoon (those followers of the Prophets who were first and foremost to believe in them, like 'Abu Bakr ), the martyrs, and the righteous!}[Qur'an 4:69]. Furthermore, the Prophet was asked: "A man loves a people, but he is lesser than them in deeds? So the Prophet replied: "A man will be with whomever he loves."
Another narration reads: "If two men loved each other for Allaah's sake, one is from the East and the second one is from the West, on the Day of Judgement, Allaah will bring them together and will say: "This is the person you loved for My Sake." [Ibn 'Asaaker]
Finally, we ask Allaah to admit all of us to Paradise with His Mercy, and have mercy on us and all our beloved ones and brothers.
Allaah knows best.
