Salamualaikum Wa Rahmatullah yesterday i applied mehndi on my hands around 3pm & when asar prayer time come i did taimum & prayed asar prayer as well as i did same in maghrib also........will my prayers are acceptable? & before doing taumum i asked about this to my friend who is having good knowledge on Islam & He said Taumum we can do only in two situation one is when you dont have water & another is when you are very sick. And after knowing this from him i neglect & i did taumum & prayed two prayers and after i prayed he called me & asked that you did taumum or ablution & i told him that i did taumum & prayed, So he told me that your prayers are not accepted & you have to pray them again & you have to give expiation for this sin because you did this thing after you got knowledge on this...........Is he said correct? after he told i prayed again & Did repentance also but what i have to give for expiation please let me know. Jazak Allah khair
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
We have already issued Fatwa 84036 clarifying that Tayammum is not valid unless there is no water or when one is unable to use it.
Applying henna is not a sound excuse for not using water. Therefore, your performing Tayammum because of henna is not acceptable and performing the prayer with that Tayammum is not valid. You were obliged to ask the scholars before performing Tayammum so that you would know the religious ruling about it.
However, since you made up those prayers you performed with Tayammum and had repented, then we hope that Allaah will accept this from you but you are not obliged to expiate for this.
