Fatwa CenterImaam Ad-Doori, may Allaah have mercy upon him
Question
Please inform us of the famous Muqri' Ad-Doori after whom the riwaayah of Ad-Doori 'an Abee 'Amr was named. Also please tell us a little of this riwaayah. Is he (Ad-Doori) the same Muqri' after whom the riwaayah of Ad-Doori 'ani-l-Kisaa'iyy was named?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
The Muqri’ Ad-Doori, is the great scholar, and the great reciter of the Quran. His name is Abu ‘Amr Hafs ibn ‘Umar ibn ‘Abdul-‘Azeez ibn Sahbaan 
born during the Al-Mansoor caliphate in 150 A.H. He was the leading reciter at his time. It was said that he was the first person to gather the different ways of the recitation of the Quran. He died in the year 240 A.H.
He was one of the narrators of the recitation of Abu ‘Amr ibn Al-‘Alaa’, and he, himself, was the narrator of the recitation of Imaam Al-Kisaa’i.
Imaam Ahmad narrated from him narrations which he [Ad-Doori] had sent to him, and he was one of his contemporary scholars. Moreover, Ibn Maajah, Abu Zar’ah Ar-Raazi and others 
narrated from him orally.
As regards the principles of his narration from Abu ‘Amr, and the matters pertaining to it, then it is recorded in the books of recitation of the Quran.
