Question
What is the ruling on giving zakah to workers who work for me? Please, could you answer me even if its time has passed?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that none is worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.
If the workers who work for you are Muslims and the salary that they receive is not sufficient for their and their family's needs, then they are poor and included in the categories that are entitled to zakah.
If they are living in prosperity and do not need such zakah, then it is not permissible for you to give them zakah because Allah, The Almighty, says (what means): {Zakah expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy…} [Quran 9: 60]
