1.One of my colleagues at work bears Rosul as name, is it allow to name one Rosul?
2. My fiancee once asked me if it is allow for one to get marry and avoid child birth till she is done with her studies using control measures in order not to interupt her educatiion
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
The criterion in knowing the prohibited names are as follows:
- If they include a name that makes them a slave of other than Allaah.
- Being named with one of the Names and Attributes of Allaah that are peculiar to Him only.
- If they imply praising one’s own self or rather dispraising it or insulting it.
All other names apart from the above names are permitted.
Therefore, it should be noted that it is permissible to be named with the name Rasool, because it is acceptable to give this name to whoever is sent to any direction with a message, whatever that massage is.
However, it is more appropriate for a Muslim to name his child with the of the companions and of pious believers, and these names are enough. For more benefit, please refer to Fataawa 82724 and 87262.
With regard to the second question, delaying having children for a need is permissible on the condition that the intention is not permanent birth control. In addition to this, it is a condition that both parties [the husband and wife] agree to it, as both of them have the right to have children. For more benefit, please refer to Fataawa 89833 and 81939.
Finally, it should be noted that before the marriage contract is conducted a fiancée is considered a non-Mahram to her fiancé. Therefore, it is not permissible to speak to her or contact her without a need at the moment, especially on the matters related to having children and so forth.
Allaah Knows best.
