If a woman starts to menstruate at one o’clock in the afternoon and she has not prayed that Thuhr prayer, should she make up for this prayer after attaining purity?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alyhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said: "Scholars have different opinions regarding this issue. Some of them state that she does not have to make up for this prayer as she has not been negligent and does not bear any sin. This is because she is permitted to delay the prayer up to the end of its time. Other scholars have said that she has to make up for this prayer because the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “The one who catches one Rak‘ah (unit) of the prayer (before its due time has elapsed) would have caught the prayer.” It is thus better to make up for this prayer because it is just one prayer and there is no hardship in performing it."
Allaah Knows best.
