Assalamualaikum, I recently painted on a canvas a picture of butterflies and flowers with a sky and clouds for my 4-5 year old niece, i recently rememered hearing that drawings are haram, my question is: is the canvas i painted haram and if it is what should i do about my situation? I am really upset and fear i will be among those Allah (SWT) will torture for my painting. Please I really need your help and Duas, your sister in Islam, -Saira

Drawing pictures of living creatures is absolutely forbidden and this is primarily included in the prohibition and the threat which are mentioned in the Sharee’ah texts regarding making pictures and those who make them. Indeed, we have issued Fatwa 90027 clarifying that the Sharee’ah made an exception to the pictures that are drawn for the children to make them enjoy them and play with them. Therefore, it becomes evident that it is permissible for you to do what you did if you did so in order that your daughter plays with it.
