Fatwa CenterTheir government grants a fare discount to the students
Question
AsalamoAlaikum In my country the government has given a facility to students to have discount in the fare they pay for some of the bus services. These students can avail the discount by showing their credible Student ID cards. Is it permissible to charge different price to normal public and students for the same service in this case?. Students usually do not earn and this this discount helps them keep travelling cost low. May Allah reward you all
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
The students in universities and schools and other knowledge centers are the most deserving class of help and assistance from the government, individuals and so forth. Therefore, if the government gives a discount for those students, then this is a good act for which it should be thanked and there is no harm in granting this discount only to the students as a privilege for them and not for other people.
