asslam u alaikum i hope u are okay.i am a mother of 2 boys living in usa for 8 years. when my husband applied for my immigration ,for some reasons i had to lie in my documents and we had to change the date of birth of my elder son by 4 months.i am repenting for what i have done and i keep crying but there is no way to undo it.at the time of immigration they took some kind of oath that everything in the forms is correct,i do not remeber myself taking oath on ALLAH,but i still am so depressed and fearful of my sin.my son is 9 yrs old and he still does not know his real date of birth but i plan on telling him when he will be more mature.there is no way to go back. i want to make it clear that problem was with my visa not my sons .some times i am paralysed and do not want to do anything except cry.i have made a firm intention of not decieving any one for wordly causes but i can not chnge his date of birth as it is in all papers.plz tell me GOD will forgive me.
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
What you did is considered a lie and changing the truth, and both matters are forbidden. For more benefit on the prohibition of lying and forgery, please refer to Fataawa 119115 and 88412. Therefore, you did well by repenting to Allaah, but this repentance should meet the conditions of a sincere repentance which we mentioned in Fatwa 86527.
However, since changing the date of birth of your son has become impossible, then do not worry about changing it, it is sufficient for you to regret what you did as Allaah does not burden a soul more than it can bear. Moreover, you should think good of your Lord as He accepts the repentance of those who repent because despairing of the mercy of Allaah is a great major sin. Allaah Says (what means): {“And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord except for those astray?”}[Quran 15:56]
For more benefit, please refer to Fatwa 92083.
Allaah Knows best.
