Would a Muslim wife be with her worldly husband in Paradise, even if they were not in the same rank? Or would she be able to choose someone else? If a woman gets married to a number of men in life which one would be her husband in the Hereafter?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
In Paradise a wife would be with her husband even if they were in different ranks in Paradise.
If a woman gets married to more than one husband, she would be with the last one. It was narrated by Abu ‘Ali Al-Harraani Al-Qushayri in Taareekh Ar-Raqqah, Abu Ash-Shaykh in At-Taareekh, and Al-Baghawi in Hadeeth ‘Eesaa ibn Saalim that Mu‘aawiyah proposed to Umm Ad-Dardaa’ but she refused and told him that she heard the Prophet, sallaallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, saying that the woman would be in Paradise with her last husband in the worldly life. She told him that she wanted to be with Abu Ad-Dardaa’ in the Hereafter. Thus, Mu‘aawiyah advised her to fast (and not marry him). [authenticated by Al-Albaani]
In another narration it said that any woman who gets married after the death of her husband, would be with her last husband in the Hereafter. [At-Tabaraani: in Al-Awsat, Ibn ‘Asaakir: in Taareekh Dimashq (Damascus), Al-Albaani: authentic]
It was narrated on the authority of Huthayfah that he told his wife not to get married after his death if she wanted to be with him in Paradise, because a women would be in Paradise with her last husband in the worldly life. This why it was prohibited for the wives of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, to marry after his death as they would be his wives in Paradise. [Al-Bayhaqi in As-Sunan]
It was said that the woman would be with the husband having the best morals and this is based on the Hadeeth that was narrated on the authority of Umm Salamah . She had asked the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, about women who marry more than once in the worldly life then die, who would be their husband in the Hereafter. The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, told her that the woman would be with the man who had the best morals. The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, added that having good behavior may be the reason for having the best in this life and in the Hereafter. [Ad-Daaraqutni]
