Question
Is Shah Waliullah Dehlvi a hadith scholar?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad 
is His slave and messenger.
If you mean Shaykh Shaah Waliyyullaah Ad-Dahlawi Ahmed ibn Abdur-Raheem, known as ‘Shaah Waliyyullaah Ad-Dahlawi’ who died in 1176 A.H., the author of the book, Hujjat Allaah Al-Baalighah (Allaah's Ultimate Presentation of Proof), then there is no doubt that he is among the prominent scholars of Hadeeth in India, and some scholars called him the "Hakeem al-Islam (wise man of Islam) in India."
Indeed, Allaah revived the science of Hadeeth in India through the efforts of this prominent scholar. ‘Abdul Hayy Al-Kittaani said about him in his book Fihris Al-Fahaaris (Index of Indexes): “This man was among the distinguished later scholars in terms of knowledge, action and fame. Allaah revived the Hadeeth and the Sunnah in India through him, his children and the children of his daughter and their students after these two had disappeared. People relied on his books and his chains of transmission [of Hadeeth] in that country. By Allaah, this scholar, whose biography we are introducing, is worthy of all respect and veneration.” [End of quote]
Also among his books is Al-Irshaad ila Muhimmaat Al-Isnaad, the book titled It-haaf An-Nabeeh Feema Yahtaaju ilayhi Al-Muhaddith wal Faqeeh, and the book, Al-Fadhl Al-Mubeen Fi Al-Musalsalat min Hadeeth An-Nabiyy Al-Ameen.
