Salam alakium dear shiekh I've seen in various of the fatwas posted on your website mentioning Ali ibn ‘Arraaq Al-Kinaani can you please tell me more about who this person was and can you tell me more about his work you have mentioned called Tanzeeh Ash-Sharee’ah Al-Marfoo’ah ‘an Al-Ahaadeeth Ash-Shanee’ah Al-Mawdhoo’ah jazakallahu khyran your response will be highly appreciated
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
He was born in Damascus in 907 AH and traveled to the Hijaaz where he assumed the position of Imaam in Al-Madeenah where he died in 963 AH.
He authored Tanzeeh Ash-Sharee‘ah Al-Marfoo‘ah ‘an Al-Akhbaar Ash-Shanee‘ah Al-Mawdhoo‘ah (Removing the reprehensible, fabricated accounts from the religion traced back to the Prophet), and Nashr Al-Lataa’if fi Qutr At-Taa’if, which is a short treatise about the history of Taa’if.
He also authored a commentary to the Al-Arba‘een An-Nawawiyyah, Tathkirat Al-Mawdhoo‘aat, Kitaab Al-Jamaalayn a commentary on the Tafseer Al-Jalaalayn, and other works.
This is a short biography about him which we excerpted from Al-A‘laam of Az-Zirikli .
His book Tanzeeh Ash-Sharee‘ah is one of the most important expository works on the Ahaadeeth fabricated about the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. The author introduced it in the preface saying: “This is a book in which I summarized these books in such a way that if someone gets hold of this book, he does not need any other book, and I went to great lengths to summarize and revise it, and I followed the methodology of the book entitled Al-La’aali’ in its biographies and organization.” [End of quote]
What he meant by the books which he summarized in it is Al-Mawdhoo‘aat of Ibn Al-Jawzi, and Al-La’aali’ Al-Masnoo‘ah and An-Nukat Al-Badee‘aat, both of which were authored by As-Suyooti, may Allaah have mercy on all of them.
He clarified that he divided it into three sections:
The first: what Ibn Al-Jawzi deemed to be fabricated and he received no opposition regarding it.
The second: what Ibn Al-Jawzi deemed to be fabricated and he received remarks about it.
The third: what As-Suyooti added to what Ibn Al-Jawzi said.
Allaah Knows best.
