Question
Can I wear a gold pendant with my husbands name in Arabic inscribed on it?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
There is no objection to a woman wearing a gold pendant with her husband's name inscribed in Arabic on it. However, if the name includes one of the Names of Allaah, such as ‘Abdullaah or ‘Abd Ar-Rahmaan, then she should not enter the toilet while wearing that pendant since such an act consists in disrespect of the Names of Allaah. An aspect of veneration for the Names of Allaah The Exalted is not to let it into filthy places like toilets. Allaah The Exalted says (what means): {And whoever honors the symbols of Allaah – indeed, it is from the piety of hearts.} [Quran 22:32]
As-Sa‘di 
wrote, "Honoring the symbols of Allaah stems from Taqwa (piety) of the hearts. When the person honors the symbols of Allaah, this is a sign of Taqwa in his heart and the soundness of his faith because honoring the symbols of Allaah is resultant of honoring Allaah and exalting Him."
It has been narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, "used to take off his ring whenever he went to relieve himself." Another version of the narration reads: "The Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, wore a ring engraved with the phrase 'Muhammad Rasool Allaah'. Whenever he went to relieve himself, he would take it off." [Abu Daawood, An-Nasaa'i, At-Tirmithi, Ibn Maajah, Al-Haakim, and Al-Bayhaqi]
Although the Hadeeth's authenticity has been questioned by some scholars, some Hadeeth scholars classified it as Saheeh (sound) or Hasan (good) such as At-Tirmithi and Al-Haakim. Hence, the Muslim should avoid entering the toilet while wearing a necklace (or anything else) bearing one of the Names of Allaah.
