Tawheed with respect to the Lordship of Allaah is achieved by adopting the Quranic approach

Question

How can we achieve Tawheed with respect to the Lordship of Allaah The Almighty in our life?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alyhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Tawheed (Islamic Monotheism) with respect to the Lordship of Allaah The Almighty means to believe that Allaah The Almighty is:

1-The Lord, Creator and Sustainer of the creation.

2- The One who arranges the affairs of creation.

3- The One who is able to do everything.

4- The One who knows everything. [Quran:65:12]

5- The one whose mercy and forbearance encompass everything.

6- The subjugator over His slaves. [Quran:6:18]

7- The One who is unique in all the above-mentioned matters, as numerous Quranic verses and other evidence point to that.

Tawheed with respect to the Lordship of Allaah The Almighty can be achieved through the method of the Quran, which urges us to ponder. It makes the realization of Tawheed with respect to the worship of Allaah The Almighty (Tawheed Al-Uboodiyyah) contingent on the realization of Tawheed with respect to the Lordship of Allaah The Almighty (Tawheed Al-Ruboobiyyah).

The following are some relevant verses:

1- Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {And thus did We show Ibraaheem (Abraham) the realm of the heavens and the earth that he would be among the certain [in faith].} [Quran 6:75]

Pondering over the heavens and the earth is the way to achieve firm belief.

2- Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Look at your food and your drink; it has not changed with time. And look at your donkey; and We will make you a sign for the people. And look at the bones [of this donkey] - how We raise them and then We cover them with flesh." And when it became clear to him, he said, "I know that Allaah is over all things competent."} [Quran 2:259]

Al-Qurtubi  may  Allaah  have  mercy  upon  him said that the soundest opinion concerning the meaning of {"And when it became clear to him"} is that this person firmly believed, after witnessing what happened, that Allaah The Almighty is able to do everything.

3- Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Say, "Observe what is in the heavens and earth." But of no avail will be signs or warners to a people who do not believe.} [Quran 10:101]

4- Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Do they not look into the realm of the heavens and the earth and everything that Allaah has created and [think] that perhaps their appointed time has come near? So in what statement hereafter will they believe?} [Quran 7:185]

5- Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Indeed, within the heavens and earth are signs for the believers. And in the creation of yourselves and what He disperses of moving creatures are signs for people who are certain [in faith]. And [in] the alternation of night and day and [in] what Allaah sends down from the sky of provision and gives life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness and [in His] directing of the winds are signs for a people who reason. These are the communications of Allaah which We recite to you with truth; then in what announcement would they believe after Allaah and His communications?} [Quran 45:3-6]

6- Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Then let mankind look at his food. How We poured down water in torrents.} [Quran 80:24-25]

7- Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Then do they not look at the camels— how they are created? And at the sky— how it is raised?} [Quran 88:17-18]

8- Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {So let man observe from what he was created. He was created from a fluid, ejected.} [Quran 86:5-6]

Pondering over the signs of Allaah The Almighty is the way to achieve Tawheed with respect to the Lordship of Allaah The Almighty. Therefore, a Muslim should always do this. Shaykh Abu Sulaymaan Ad-Daaraani  may  Allaah  have  mercy  upon  him said that whenever he used to step out of his house and see anything, he would believe that everything he sees is a bounty from Allaah The Almighty to him, and that there is a lesson to be learned from everything he sees. [Ibn Abi Ad-Dunya in At-Tawakkul wa Al-I‘tibaar]

Al-Hasan Al-Basri  may  Allaah  have  mercy  upon  him said that pondering for one hour is better than performing Salah (prayer) throughout the night. He said that pondering is a mirror that enables you to see your good and bad deeds.

Sufyaan Ibn ‘Uyaynah  may  Allaah  have  mercy  upon  him said that pondering is a light that enters your heart.
