Fatwa CenterCutting off contact with Muslim friend who lives in another country
Question
Assalaamu alaykum. I have heard that a person who boycotts or stays away from his Muslim friend does not enjoy the advantage of his sins being forgiven on (I think) Mondays and Fridays. About seven years ago, I severed my relationship with a Muslim friend whom I had befriended in another country while I was living there. I do not currently have his number, and I no longer live in that country, and I am not even sure I wish to contact him further. Is finding him and contacting him a must, or do I simply have to correct my behavior with him if I ever were to meet him again?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
Imaam Muslim 
narrated in his Saheeh that the Prophet said, “The deeds of people are presented to Allaah on every Monday and Thursday. Allaah forgives every Muslim who does not associate any partner to Allaah, except a person who is in dissension with his Muslim brother; it will be said, 'Leave them until they reconcile, leave them until they reconcile.'”
This hadeeth does not apply to you and your friend because you did not abandon each other; rather, you now live in different countries far away from each other. However, if you meet him in the future, then you should treat him well, just like any other Muslim.
