Question
Is it permissible to name my cat 'Sabir'?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
It is permissible to name this cat with the mentioned name, and it is confirmed in the Sunnah that the Prophet used to name his animals and other things with Arabic names. For instance, he had a she-camel which was named Al-'Adhbaa’, and his sword was called Thul-Faqaar, and so forth, and this is well-known from his biography.
