Question
Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu. Honorable Scholars, I want to know about the authenticity of a marriage ceremony held at an annual meeting of the Tablighi Jama'at. There are many bachelors who attend it, and their marriage is contracted together at this occasion by a judge. Is it correct to contract a marriage in this way?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
We do not know how the marriage contracts are conducted in this ceremony. The Islamic Shariah set certain conditions for the validity of the marriage contract; if these conditions are met, the marriage is valid. We have previously explained these conditions in fatwa 83629.
