Assalaamu alaykum. I am obese, and I want to detox my body and lose excessive fat through water fasting for 1 to 2 weeks (maybe even longer). This means only drinking water and nothing else throughout the fasting. It is the quickest way to detox and clean out your body before starting a healthier eating habit. I have done a lot of research about it, and while it could be dangerous if not done properly, it has been done succesfully by many people and has many benefits. Of course, I need to know the Islamic point of view and whether it is permissible to start a water fast or not.
All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
You should consult the specialist doctors in such matters; if they decide that there is no harm on the body, then there is nothing wrong in following this diet (water fasting), but if it includes any harm, then you must avoid it in compliance with the hadeeth that reads, “There should be no harm nor reciprocal harm.”
Allah knows best.
