Who is ‘Aa’ishah, may Allaah be pleased with her?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
The following is a brief extract about ‘Aa’ishah that was written by Ibn Hajar who was a follower of the Shaafi‘i school.
She is the Mother of the Believers, ‘Aa’ishah, the daughter of Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq . Her father's name was ‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Uthmaan Al-Qurashi from Bani Taym ibn Murrah. Her mother was Umm Rummaan, the daughter of ‘Aamir ibn ‘Uwaym Al-Kinaaniyyah. ‘Aa’ishah was born four or five years after the mission of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. It was narrated in authentic traditions that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, concluded the marriage contract with her father when she was six or seven years old but consummated the marriage when she was nine years old. This happened in the month of Shawwaal in the first or second year after Hijrah.
Allaah The Almighty enabled her to obtain a great amount of knowledge as she was in the company of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. Masrooq said that he had seen many of the Companions of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, consult her about issues of inheritance. ‘Ataa’ ibn Abi Rabaah said that ‘Aa’ishah was widely recognized as the best jurist of her time and the most knowledgeable person. Abu Burdah, the son of Abu Moosa Al-Ash‘ari, may Allah be pleased with him, gave a similar commentary about ‘Aa’ishah .
It was narrated on the authority of Abu Moosa Al-Ash‘ari that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said that ‘Aa’ishah is the best of women. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
‘Aa’ishah asked the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, about his wives in Paradise and he told her that she would be one of them.
She died on Tuesday, the seventeenth of Ramadan, in the fifty-eighth year after Hijrah. May Allaah be pleased with her.
Allaah Knows best.
