Question
Will the duas of someone who has consumed alcohol not be accepted for 40 days? Can someone who has consumed alcohol within the last 40 days ask someone else to pray dua for them?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
As far as we know, there is no Islamic text from the Quran or the Sunnah that is specific regarding the non-acceptance of the supplication of a drinker of wine (and all intoxicants). Rather, what was reported is that his prayer is not accepted, meaning that he is not rewarded for it, even if his obligation is discharged by performing it and he is not required to make it up again as we have clarified in previous Fataawa.
Nonetheless, some scholars stated that the non-acceptance of his prayer is an indication that his other acts of worship are more deserving of not being accepted, because the prayer is one of the greatest acts of worship.
If it is not accepted from the one who drinks alcohol who did not repent, then the non-acceptance of his other acts of worship from him is more appropriate. Al-Mubaarak Poori said in explaining the Hadeeth: “Whoever drinks alcohol and gets drunk, his prayers will not be accepted for forty days. If he repents, then Allah will accept his repentance.” (He said): “The Prayer is the mother of acts of worship, as Allah Says (what means): {Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing.} [Quran 29:45], and it was said that Allah specifically mentioned the Prayer because it is the best acts of worship performed by the body, so if it is not accepted, then it is more appropriate that no other act of worship is accepted.” [End of quote]
Therefore, the drinker of alcohol who insists on drinking it is upon a great danger, and he must repent to Allah Almighty. Yet, we cannot be certain that his supplication will not be accepted since there is no explicit Islamic text on this matter. But there is nothing wrong with him asking the righteous people to supplicate for him.
