Question
Are the descendants of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, throughout the ages included in his family that is mentioned in As-Salaah Al-Ibraaheemiyyah (the prayer said at the final sitting in Salaah)?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
Every person belonging to the household of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, his offspring and relatives from the tribe of Bani Haashim are included in his family. This is because a man's family includes his offspring, descendants, and household, so the term is not exclusive to a certain time or place.
Therefore, the offspring of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, are the first to be included generally in As-Salah Al-Ibraaheemiyyah, and the rulings which are unique for them, such as the prohibition of accepting Zakah (obligatory charity), are observed. Also, we must give the Muslims amongst them all their due respect and acknowledge their rights and merits.
