Question
My daughter is named NOOR. She is 20 and a good girl. Some maullana told me that NOOR is Gods name and is very heavy so I should change my daughters name as it will be bad luck for my daughter. I am very upset and scared. Is it true that a child should not be named NOOR. We named her Noor as it has such a beautiful meaning and is a very light beautiful name. pls let me know?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad, sallAllaahu ʻalayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
An-Noor is one of the divine names of Allah, The Exalted. Ibn Al-Qayyim 
wrote, “An-Noor is one of the divine names of Allah, The Exalted. It is one of the names of Allah received by the Muslim nation with acceptance and it is established as one of the divine names ...”
However, it is not one of the names that are used exclusively in reference to Allah, The Exalted, such as "Allah," "Ar-Rahmaan," and "Al-Khaaliq." These names could have a meaning common between Allah and His creatures, i.e. they are not exclusive to Allah. It is allowable to give such common names to the created beings as evidenced by the Prophet's approval of some of the Companions' names such as ʻAli and Hakeem; the names Al-ʻAli and Al-Hakeem are among the divine names.
However, the Prophet, sallallaahu ʻalayhi wa sallam, did not command that the names of ʻAli ibn Abu Taalib and Hakeem ibn Hizaam 
should be changed.
Rather, it is impermissible to give the created beings the divine names that are exclusive to Allah, The Exalted, such as Al-Khaaliq, Ar-Rahmaan, and the like. Hence, there is no religious impediment to giving the name ‘Noor’ to a human being and whoever bears such a name is not required to change it.
