Alsalamu alaikum,I am a Muslim female living in Canada, and I go to a gym for women only. These gyms are very rare to come by as you can imagine, and I, along many other Muslim women, consider it a safe, private space for us to work out while observing our modesty away from men, security cameras, open windows, etc. Unfortunately, we have recently found out that this gym has started to allow transgender people in, people who are born male and now "identify as female." What is your advice in this situation, can we still workout in these spaces? Can I workout if I'm wearing a hijab but not observing the full modest abaya that I wear outside, and for example, wearing a long-sleeve shirt and loose pants?Jazakum Allahu Khairan
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
Know, dear sister, that the man who allegedly transformed into a female is in fact a man, and there is no consideration for the delirium of transgender. Thus, it is not permissible for a woman to mix with a male who allegedly transformed into a female, nor for him to see what she must cover in front of men. Based on this, if these men entered the women’s gym, it is not permissible for you to continue exercising there, even with the clothes you mentioned.
Allah knows best.
