Question
What is black magic?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.
Black magic is magic that uses polytheistic writings, talismans and knots to seek the help of devils to affect people’s hearts and bodies. It is unlawful and one of the gravest destructive major sins.
On the authority of Abu Hurayrah 
the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, ordered Muslims to shun the seven destructive major sins and counted magic among them.
This kind of magic contradicts Faith because it revolves around talismans and knots that are not free from polytheistic practices, such as worshipping devils or seeking their help, etc. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {And they followed [instead] what the devils had recited during the reign of Sulaymaan (Solomon). It was not Sulaymaan who disbelieved, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic and that which was revealed to the two angels at Babylon, Haaroot and Maaroot. But the two angels do not teach anyone unless they say, "We are a trial, so do not disbelieve [by practicing magic]." And [yet] they learn from them that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife. But they do not harm anyone through it except by permission of Allaah.}[Quran 2:102]
