How can we reconcile Sahih al-Bukhari 3 and Sahih al-Bukhari 6982? One mentions Waraqa bin Naufal translating the Gospel in Arabic, one in Hebrew. Also it mentions that Allah willed him to write that - but I thought that the Gospels were corrupted already at that time?JazakAllahu Khairun
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
Both narrations are authentic, as Waraqah used to write the Gospel, which was in Syriac, in Hebrew and Arabic. Ibn Hajar stated in Fat-h Al-Bari: “All this is true because Waraqah learned how to speak and write in Hebraic, so he used to write in Hebraic as proficiently as he did in Arabic because he mastered both languages.”
The other part of your question is not clear. If you understand from “Ma Shaa’ Allah an Yaktub” that Waraqah wrote what Allah revealed to him, which contradicts the distortion of the Gospel written by Waraqah, this understanding is absolutely wrong and has nothing to do with the intended meaning. “Ma Shaa’ Allah” here means what Allah decreed and the like.
Allah knows best.
