السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته I was listening to Shuroot As Salah and one of the 4 things which can make Aql go is IghmaWhat is Ighma, does it apply to hypoglycemia? Because it can be difficult to differentiate when the loss of Aql would be insanity and sleep, I’m assuming if I am awake then it is insanity and if I am asleep from hypoglycemia then the Ahkam of sleep apply?
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad
is His slave and Messenger.
Fainting is a temporary loss of consciousness, and it has many causes known to physicians, among them is low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). The difference between someone who has fainted and someone who is asleep is well-known; the sleeper can be alerted and awakened. However, whether fainted or asleep, such a person is not held religiously accountable, because the intellect, which is the basis of accountability, is absent. As for making up missed prayers, there is a difference of opinion among the scholars regarding the one who has fainted; should he be treated like the sleeper, who is required to make them up, or like the insane person, who is not required to do so? Further details on this matter are mentioned in the books of Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence).
Allah knows best.
