Question
A widow whose husband died and who is still inside the Idda period, can she apply some oil on her hair or body after washing it?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
It is not permissible for a widow in her waiting period to appear in front of her family members with adornments. She should remain on her natural condition without any beautification or make up until the end of her waiting period. Therefore, she should not apply any perfume or oil for beautification and she should not wear the clothes used for beautification, unless the oil is used for the purpose of treatment for a disease in which case it is permissible.
