Question

How long can the Muslim ummah pray QUNOOT in the Jum'aah prayer? What is the status of a Muslim Ummah who have been continuously praying the QUNOOT in the second rak'aah for more than 20 months?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Everybody is aware of the state in which our Ummah is nowadays. It is in a period of weakness. It doesn't own the necessary arms to resist its enemies. The Muslim is asked to chase out his enemies to defend himself, his religion and his honour. He can do this by two means. First, he should use the faith in Allah and believe in the promise of Allah that Islam will prevail and Muslims will be the winners. The Muslim should supplicate Allah and ask Him to grant him victory and to refute any evil that could approach him. Indeed, Allah mentioned the story of the group of patient believers who supplicated Him saying: {our Lord! Forgive us our sins and our transgressions (in keeping our duties to you) establish our feet firmly and give us victory over the disbelieving folk}. [Quran 3:147] In the Sunnah, one could find many more supplications. The second means is the material one. It is countless and different. Muslims are all asked to try to get the best arms they can to defend their Ummah, failure to do so, they will be punished for any negligence in this matter. Many Muslims are not able to get such arms. The least a Muslim can do is to supplicate Allah to grant the Muslims the victory, they need. A supplication from a good heart might be answered positively by Allah and as a result, change the state of misery and weakness in which the Muslims are nowadays. Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "Du'aa (supplication) is worship" narrated by Ahmad and others and it is a sound Hadith.

Allah knows best.
