Question
My sister was visiting the USA and she bought a DVD player but couldn't take it with her. Now she is asking me to ship it to her. The problem is that I think she will use to see Haram things. My question is, if I ask her to promise me not to do so, would i be excused before Allah even though she might falsely promise me not to look at Haram things?
Answer
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
If you believe that most probably your sister will use that player for Haram purpose then you are not permitted to send it to her. In fact doing so is a kind of cooperation in committing Haram. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {Help you one another in Al-Birr and At-Taqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another in sin and transgression. …}[5:2].
Her promise does not permit you to send this player to her as long as you strongly believe that she may use it in Haram.
