Question
I have a question about going to a Muslim person who writes amulets, etc. I went to such a man; he and his family seem to be very religious and good people. Although, I did not really believe and I also asked them whether it was forbidden according to our religion. They said it wasn't; the sole purpose is to help and Allah decides the rest. Their argument was also that like you go to doctors for your physical health there will be no harm to go for social problems. I wanted to get rid of the love I feel for a boy that is from a different religion. He said that black magic was done on me and he gave me a piece of paper with Qur'anic writing and told me to put it in water and drink it for 5 weeks, and for 5 weeks I should bathe myself with seawater and also to prinkle the seawater in the corner of my bedroom. Now I feel as if it has gone, all the pain, and sorrow. He also gave me an amulet which would protect me from evil/black magic of people, but I don't wear of because still in some way I am afraid that it isn't good according to Islam. The fact that I did what the man told me, each time I said and prayed that I didn't trust that man to cure/did not intend Shirk but that everything would come from Allah. But, could you please tell me whether it is forbidden, whether we should believe that black magic exists. I have read a lot but the one says it's o.k. the other that it is forbidden and all that is nonsense.
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
It is lawful to seek protection and cure from magic and evil eye provided the treatment is through Quran and known Thikr (supplication and remembrance of Allah). So, if some unknown amulets are used or if the exorcist asks the person to sacrifice an animal or the like, then it becomes prohibited to accept such treatment, as the person who does it is nothing but a juggler and a magician.
There is no harm for the Muslim who performs Ruqyah to read some Quran on some water or to write it and wipe the writing in some water before giving that water to the sick person. This water can also be poured throughout the house or in some of its corners… etc.
As for hanging amulets, it is forbidden if these amulets contain anything other than the Quran or clear and understandable supplications or Thikr of Allah.
The Prophet said: “Whoever hangs up an amulet is guilty of Shirk.” [Ahmad]
But if these amulets contain only Quran or Thikr, some scholars believe that hanging them is lawful while others believe the opposite.
We think that it is unlawful to hang amulets for the following reasons:
1. Hanging "lawful" amulets might lead to hanging unlawful ones.
2. The prohibition of hanging amulets is general; it did not specify a lawful kind of amulet.
As for your question about black magic, we inform you that magic exists and Islam recognizes its existence.
On the other hand, there is no evidence in the Sharee’ah proving that magic is black or white.
