Question
What does the Shari'a rule about renting videocassettes continuing American and Arabic movies, not hard-core movies?
Answer
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
If those videotapes contain useful things such as scientific and documentary programs, lectures, teach-ins, programs for kids and legitimate chants, and so on, then there is no objection to rent them.
On the other hand, if such videotapes contain Haram such as music, exposing women's bodies, base plays, destructive films and so on, then it is Haram to rent them.
