Question
Unfortunately, most Muslim young men choose only the beautiful women to marry, saying that Allah is Beautiful and loves beauty. What about the good Muslim women who are not beautiful?
Answer
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
As recorded in a sound Hadith, a woman is married for four reasons, i.e. for the sake of her religion, her charm, her wealth or her family chain.
Some people look for beauty while others look for religion and so on.
For sure, many young people look for beautiful, religious girls, but this does not mean that those who are not beautiful will not be looked for, since marriage is a form of Divine blessing that Allah grants to whom He likes from among women.
Then too, beauty is different in the eye of different human beings. A woman may seem beautiful to her suitor although she is not so in fact, but this is by Divine favor.
Thus, a good woman should beautify herself inside with sincerity and piety and herself outside with obedience to Allah. She has also to know that marriage is in the Hand of Allah, since so many women, whose looks are moderately attractive enjoy very good family life while many outstanding beauties are miserable.
As a final word, a woman should not hurry up in accepting any man who comes to ask for her hand. She has to look for the one whose religion and character are good.
