Can I perform Taraweeh alone at home as I cannot go to the mosque?
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
Performing Taraweeh at home is better than performing it in the mosque provided the praying person is confident that he would adhere to it. The Prophet said: “The best among the prayers of the person are the ones he performs in his home unless they are obligatory prayers.” [Al-Bukhari]
The Prophet also said: “Perform some of your prayers at home; do not turn them (your homes) into graveyards.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
The reward becomes greater if the person who prays in his home helps his other members of the family (wife, children) pray this important prayer, as this is part of helping one another in righteousness.
But, if the person fears for himself to get lazy if not going to the mosque, then it becomes better for him to pray it in the mosque or with a group that is active and ready to persevere on it.
Allah knows best.
